【归纳】：看句(1)的两个例句，“the number of+________名词(单数、复数)”表示“……的数量”，作主语时，，谓语动词要用__________（单数、复数）。

看句(2)，“a number of + _______名词(单数、复数)”，表示“许多”，作主语时，谓语动词用_______（单数、复数）。注意：number前可用large，small等修饰，以表示程度。
